Greetings from President Hennessy

미국 스텐포드대학 꼭 가서 공부하고 싶은곳이다.

한국에는 서울대하교가 명문이라고 자칭하는데 교육 방식이

우리와는 다르게 이루어지고 있고 꿈과 희망을 가진

성공보다는 실수를 한다 해도 그 과정을 반성하고 또 항상

꿈과 미래를 연결해 가는 학습장 토론문화 이른것들이

정말 맘에 든다.

아들 상민이가 이른곳에서 공부를 해 세계에 유능한 사람이 되었으면 하는 작은 바램이다.

하지만 꼭 그게 우리 후손이 아니더라도 추첨하고 싶은 곳이다.

Thank you for your interest in Stanford University. As its 10th president and a faculty member since

1977, I think Stanford is a very special place.

Stanford is recognized as one of the world’s leading universities, and our students have opportunities

to participate in a remarkable range of activities. Through academic courses taught by renowned

professors, research and public service opportunities, and an extraordinary breadth of extracurricular

activities — Stanford University prepares students to take on the great challenges of the day and

Multidisciplinary research and teaching are at the heart of recent university-wide initiatives on human

health, the environment and sustainability, international affairs and the arts. These initiatives offer our

faculty and students opportunities for collaboration across disciplines that will be key to future

Our undergraduate students are an important part of these efforts. Stanford undergraduates have

opportunities to study with faculty in small classes from their first days on campus, participate in

study abroad or spend a quarter in Washington, D.C. Many students become involved in faculty

research or develop their own projects and discover the excitement of being at the edge of a field and

advancing the frontier of knowledge.The pioneering spirit that inspired Jane and Leland Stanford to establish this university more than

a century ago encourages boldness in everything we do — whether those efforts occur in the

library, in the classroom, in a laboratory, in a theater or on an athletic field.

설명이 더 필요없는 학교.모든 분야에 걸쳐 세계적으로 이름난 학교이다.최고의 교수진을 가졌으나 1학년

학급 수를 봐서는 교수와 학생간의 교류는거의 불가능하다. 그렇지만 2학년부터는 나아진다고한다.
교수들도 학생들과 가까워지길 원하고 학생들 또한 대단한 열의로 교수들을 찾아다닌다.하루 평균 4~5시간을

공부하는 스탠퍼드의 학생들에게는 다른 명문 학교 학생들이 겪는 비슷한 문제점이 닥쳐온다.

공부할 시간을 빼면 다른 활동은 거의 할 시간이 없으며 데이트는 사실상 불가능한 곳이 스탠퍼드지만 이

곳에서는대신 여러가지 스포츠 활동이 이뤄진다. 1학년 대부부니 한가지 이상의 스포츠 클럽에 들 정도로

스탠퍼드의 스포츠활동은 활발하게 이뤄진다. 전체 유학생 수는 약 5%정도이고 연간 학비는 기숙사비를

포함해서 약32,500달러 정도다. 외국 유학생에게 장학금을 지급하며 한해 장학금을 받는 유학생은 180명

정도이다.
